Clinic Waiting Rooms: The Infection-Control Gap Nobody Budgets For
By Probello Facility Services · April 21, 2026 · 6 min read

In a typical Ontario clinic, the waiting room sees more bodies per square foot than any exam room, and it is the space patients use to judge whether the practice is careful.
High-touch inventory
- Chair arms and seat backs — including fabric and vinyl seams
- Reception counter, pens, clipboards, and payment terminals
- Door handles, push plates, and washroom entry surfaces
- Kids' area toys and surfaces, where present
- Water station, magazine racks, and shared touchscreens
Cadence and dwell time
Disinfectant only works if it stays wet for the label's contact time. A quick wipe that dries in 20 seconds is cleaning, not disinfecting. Protocol should specify product, dwell time, and cloth-change discipline.
Disinfection is a chemistry-and-time procedure. Skip the time and you have only moved soil around.
