Shutdown Cleaning: How to Plan a Two-Day Window That Actually Holds
By Probello Facility Services · May 26, 2026 · 7 min read

A shutdown clean is priced in hours but judged by one thing: whether production restarts on time. That makes sequencing and crew scale more important than any single technique.
Build the plan backwards from restart
- Confirm lockout and access windows with plant maintenance in writing
- Identify residue types up front — oil, dust, polymer, food-grade — each needs different chemistry
- Sequence overhead work before floors, always
- Stage crew in waves so no zone waits on a single team
- Reserve the final two hours for verification and touch-up, not production work
Safety briefing is part of the scope
Crews entering a production environment should be briefed on site-specific hazards, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures before the first hour. We build that briefing into mobilization rather than treating it as paperwork.
